When Life Throws You a Curveball?

Most of my blogs have been about technology and all things wireless. Today I am sharing my story of Intelligent Wireless Management and how I got to where I am.

Some of you may know I worked for a wonderful company called St. Cloud Wireless Holdings (SCWH), which owned Cellular 2000 and a Sprint affiliate called Northern PCS. I thoroughly enjoyed my job, and in my mind, I would continue to work there and eventually retire from this great organization. That was that!  Here comes that Curve Ball!  Life doesn’t always go the way we think it should. SCWH sold its assets to both Verizon and Sprint respectively. Strike One!  I found myself having to apply for a job within Sprint Corporate. Luckily, I was accepted and breathed a sigh of relief. Once again, I thought this isn’t so bad, I’ll just go ahead and make a career with Sprint Corporate. Curve Ball #2 came my way about 2 years later! My boss called me and stated “Todd, don’t buy anything big, I think you will be in the next round of layoffs”. Strike 2! I had about 6 weeks of employment left to figure out where do I go from here.

I was blessed with another job in the industry, but knew this was not what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.  Driving home one day with the thought of “How am I going to help feed my family?” wasn’t the most pleasant. Thankfully as I got closer to home, God inspired me to consider opening my own business. I’ll never forget the moment I approached my future wife and said “How would you feel about us opening a business?” After only a few questions, she stated “I’d live in a box with you if we have to.” Fortunately, the curve balls that I thought were the worst thing that could ever happen allowed me to Hit a Grand Slam! Thus, Intelligent Wireless Management was born. We collaborated with Brenda Eisenschenk and her InteleConnect crew and have never looked back. Our business model puts the customer first and allows us be an extension of their business by saving them time, money and internal resources.  Brenda has been a wonderful mentor, friend, coach, and we wouldn’t be here today without her. Thank you, Brenda, for believing in us. Almost 7 years later we are still here, still VERY thankful for our clients, our business partners, and mentors. Our growth allowed us to have Renee become part of our team. She is responsible for awesome customer service and keeping me focused.

Ok, back to my point. Life is going to set you back with curve balls and strikes, but you do not have to strike out. Keep batting and don’t give up. You just might hit one right out of the park. One of my favorite quotes, loosely paraphrased, is by Vince Lombardi “Life is not defined by the number of times you are knocked down, but by how many times you get up”.
